Clarke Students Set for Service Day

Into the Streets will Impact Local Organizations, Communities

: This Saturday, Sept. 22, over 200 students from Clarke will gather at the university’s Student Activities Center in preparation for “Into the Streets,” their semi-annual service day. Since 1999, Clarke University has provided students for a half-day of volunteer work throughout Dubuque and surrounding communities.

Starting at 8 a.m. Clarke students, faculty, staff, friends and family will grab quick bite to eat, break off into groups, and then set out to the 23 locations where the service projects will take place. “Into the Streets” is a project run by Clarke’s campus ministry office and is integral to the university’s mission. Designed to foster a spirit of volunteerism among students, this popular experience also helps students understand that the impact of, and from, service can take place at any level.

The service projects themselves will take place at a variety of locations. The local organizations participating in this fall’s event range from Hospice of Dubuque and Shalom Retreat Center in Dubuque, to Swiss Valley Nature Center in Peosta, Iowa and New Hope Catholic Work Farm in LaMotte, Iowa (full list attached).  The service activities are based on the need and desire of the organization, which may include cleaning, painting, yard work, or just visiting with residents. “Into the Streets” runs from 8 a.m. – noon.
