Auditions may be scheduled with the Clarke University Admissions Office by calling (563)588-6316. If a student is unable to visit Clarke and compete for a Fine Art Talent Award, the student may make other arrangements by contacting the Clarke Admissions Office.
Music Audition FAQs
What do I need to prepare for the audition/review?
Students interested in majoring in music must prepare an audition and participate in a short interview with the music faculty. The audition and interview process will take approximately 15 minutes.
Please prepare your audition by including the following:
Voice: Two contrasting selections from the classical art song or aria repertoire. Languages are encouraged, but not required. Bring sheet music for your selections in the key performed. An accompanist will be provided.
Instrumental: Two contrasting movements from the classical repertoire. Bring sheet music for your selections. An accompanist will be provided for all wind/brass/string/percussion instruments.
Piano: Two contrasting movements or pieces from the classical repertoire.
Composition: Bring representative portfolio of composed works. Students are encouraged to do an instrumental or vocal audition as well.
What do I need to bring to my audition?
Just music and your instrument, if needed.
What should I wear for my audition?
Dress like you would for an interview.
Where do I check in on the day of my audition?
Admissions Office in the Atrium.
How long before my audition time should I check in at Admissions?
10 minutes.
Where can I warm up before my audition?
The practice rooms in Eliza Kelly Hall (1st floor).
Who will take me there?
An admissions staff member.
How many people attend the audition?
About three to five members of the music faculty.
How long is the audition?
15-20 minutes.
How long after the audition will it take to get the results?
About 1-2 weeks.
