Psychology is the systematic study of behavior and mental processes. The psychology department is committed to maintaining a rigorous academic curriculum designed to give the student knowledge of behavior and cognitive processes, as well as an understanding of how this knowledge is scientifically acquired and applied. The psychology department strongly emphasizes the development of analytic and expressive skills that are the basis of investigation, evaluation, and communication in the field.
Curriculum taken by psychology majors prepare students for graduate and professional programs in psychology, medicine, law, social work, ministry, and for entry positions in group homes and other counseling settings, business, government or industry. Students who plan to attend graduate school should discuss this with an adviser early in their course of study.
