Seasonal Flu

Students living in the Residence Halls should notify their RA or RD (preferably by email).

If students are unable to reach their professors, please notify Pat Maddux, Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and Institutional Support, who will notify your professors.

The Centers for Disease Control recommend that if you are sick with FLU like symptoms that you stay home, stay in your room and self-quarantine for at least 24 hours after fever is gone except to get medical care or medical necessities.

  • Get plenty of rest.
  • Drink clear fluids such as broth, water and sports drinks to avoid dehydration.
  • Be watchful of emergency warning signs, difficulty breathing, chest pain, dizziness, discolored lips, uncontrollable vomiting, pain or pressure in chest or abdomen. You may have to seek medical attention.
  • People with chronic conditions asthma, diabetes, heart condition, and people 65 years or older, pregnant women and young children are high risk populations and may need medical care.

Take preventative measures to avoid getting the flu.

GET VACCINATED ANNUALLY at a physician’s office, walk-in clinics and most pharmacies.

Stay home if you have flu or flu-like symptoms, such as fever over 100 degrees.
Practice good hand hygiene. Wash hands frequently with warm, soapy water.
Cover your cough. Cough with tissue or into your elbow.
Dispose of tissues properly.

Remember

Most people fully recover on their own without medical treatment. If you are sick, self-isolate, drink fluids to stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, eat what you can and take ibuprofen and Tylenol as directed, if you are without allergy. Seek medical care if you have any of the above listed complications.
