Today's demand for computer specialists far outweighs the number of trained professionals in the field - and graduates of Clarke University are taking advantage of the demand! Our computer students frequently accept high-paying positions months before they graduate. While here, they benefit from Clarke's established and comprehensive computer science department, one of the first in the nation.

As reflected in alumni and student comments, our students participate fully in diverse projects and classroom activities that reflect today’s important applications such as computer security; database systems; project management; software analysis, design and development; computer networking and web programming.  Continuous emphasis on the newest technologies, team work and communication development make our coursework the foundation for students’ futures.

Our students gain enormous insight from professors who are not only experienced educators with diverse business and research experience, but who are seasoned computer professionals with advanced degrees in computer science. Small classes and faculty commitment allow our students to interact freely and at length with our knowledgeable and collaborative team of instructors.

Departmental courses are offered both in the traditional daytime format and in the accelerated TimeSaver format (with hybrid courses meeting just once a week.)

The department is guided by a Computer Advisory Board consisting of computing professionals representing major corporations and organizations.  Board members frequently review trends in computing, suggest changes to the curriculum, discuss careers in the field and advise students on job skills and placement.

Students often take advantage of the many opportunities available for internships, part-time or full-time positions in various local and regional businesses and organizations. The demand for computer professionals continues to be strong - and Clarke's CIS major provides a solid foundation for a variety of computing careers.
