Clarke Business Students Take Third Place

Business Competition Addresses Human Resource Issues

: Clarke University announced today that two of their undergraduate students were awarded third place in a regional business competition.  Sponsored by the Tri-State Area Human Resource Association (TRIHRA), the competition included student teams from Clarke, Loras College, University of Dubuque and University of Wisconsin-Platteville.  The goal of the competition is to raise student awareness of the current human resource issues in the work place.

Students in Clarke’s Human Resources Management classes participated in the semester-long project.  The project required two-person teams to select an issue in human resources, write a 30-page paper on the topic, and create a 15-20 minute video.  Each of the competing schools chose the top two projects from their business classes and submitted those for review by TRIHRA.

Clarke students Dustin Sandberg and Ethan Jelinek won Third Place for their presentation on the topic, “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” (also known as, Obamacare).  TRIHRA presented both students on the Clarke team with a certificate and a $75 cash award.

During the semester, TRIHRA also sponsored a trivia night and a panel discussion.  These events presented Clarke students with unique and valuable opportunities to network with HR managers from around the region. This was the first year that TRIHRA has sponsored the competition, which they plan to make an annual event.
