Clarke President Elected to Statewide Board Dedicated to Community Service

By Clarke News  |  June 14, 2013

Clarke University President Sister Joanne M. Burrows, SC, Ph.D., was elected chair of the board of directors of Iowa Campus Compact (IACC), a statewide association of college and university presidents committed to student service in local communities.

Burrows will serve a one-year term as chair of the board, which includes presidents from six other colleges and universities in the state.

“I look forward to the opportunity to help provide further leadership and direction for Iowa Campus Compact,” said Burrows. “We at Clarke are committed to the public mission of higher education and want to support this work statewide.”

Iowa Campus Compact works to integrate community service, service-learning and community engagement opportunities into student’s academic and co-curricular activities.

Burrows, who has been president of Clarke since July 2006, was also recently elected to the board of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges and serves on the board of the College of Mount St. Joseph. In the Dubuque community, Burrows sits on the board for Opening Doors, which operates the Maria House and Teresa Shelter, and the Executive Committee of the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation Board of Directors, of which she is past chair.
