Clarke College Board of Trustees Names New Chair and Vice Chair

The Clarke College Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Thomas Lynch, CLU/ChFC, has been named chair of the Board and Dolores Marie McHugh, BVM, has been named vice chair of the Board. Both will begin their positions following the April meeting of the Board of Trustees. Lynch and McHugh will succeed current chair Michael Triplett and current vice chair Jayne Zenaty Spittler ’71, whose terms will end at the April meeting.

“Tom and Dolores are true leaders who are wholly dedicated and committed to Clarke’s mission of providing a value-centered education,” said Clarke President Catherine Dunn, BVM, Ph.D. “They will lead the Board with a spirit of enthusiasm and teamwork as Clarke continues its legacy of excellence in education.”

Thomas Lynch has been a member of the Clarke College Board of Trustees over 25 years and has served on its financial and investment committee, the McElroy committee and the development committee. He is a principal of Octagon Financial Group in Minneapolis, Minn.; president of Bryn Mawr Financial Corporation, an investment management marketing firm; and Planned Giving Systems, Inc., a firm specializing in uses of charitable giving and other advanced tax and estate planning tools.

Within both the planned giving community and the banking community, he is considered one of the nation’s foremost planners in the use of creative strategies and solutions to a myriad of tax and estate planning issues. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation and the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation. He graduated with honors in Russian studies from Syracuse College in 1952.

Dolores Marie McHugh, BVM has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1980, serving on its corporate board, executive committee and new membership committee. She was president of the Sisters of Charity, BVM from 1992-2000 and was vice president of the BVM Congregation from 1984-1992. She has also served on the Board of Directors for Carmel High School in Mundelein, Illinois.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Avila College in Kansas City, a master’s degree in administration from Marquette College and a post-graduate degree in administration from Iowa State College. McHugh taught elementary school in Chicago, Kansas City and Glendale, Calif., and was principal of St. Catherine’s in Kansas City for seven years. During her 10 years with the Diocese of Des Moines, she served as K-12 curriculum coordinator for two years and K-12 superintendent of schools for eight years.
