American Legion Supports New Scholarships
Thanks to a $2,000 grant from the American Legion of Iowa Foundation, Clarke University will award four new $500 scholarships to veteran students during the 2023-2024 academic year. The scholarships are available to both undergraduate and graduate students.
These scholarships address a growing need for the men and women who enlist in the U.S. Military and choose to continue their education after service. Though the military offers educational benefits, scholarships like these can help cover the added costs of books, materials, and other fees that sometimes stand between a student and completing their degree.
As a 36-year career officer of the U.S. military, I have a good understanding of the needs of our service members. Having the opportunity to pursue a college degree provides a boost to their professional lives, as well as personal fulfillment and success. I am pleased to be President of a college that honors the service and sacrifice of our veterans in this way.
Efforts like these new scholarships, flexible military leave, and transfer of military credits have earned Clarke nationwide distinction, including Yellow Ribbon status from the Department of Veteran Affairs and a “Military Friendly School” designation by Viqtory, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that connects the military community to civilian employment, educational, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
The university thanks the American Legion of Iowa Foundation and all our partners for their support. If you’d like to join them in funding the Clarke University mission, please visit clarke.edu/giving.
