Artist’s Invitational Adorning the Hollow Opens at Clarke
Clarke University is proud to host Adorning the Hollow, an Invitational Exhibit curated by Assistant Professor of Art, Troy Aiken. The exhibition runs November 3-21 in the Quigley Gallery on the Clarke University campus, with an artist’s reception from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, November 14 that is free and open to the public.
Adorning the Hollow includes ceramics, sculpture, painting, and photography pieces from over a dozen artists from across the Midwest. Through a variety of styles, textures, and more, the featured work explores the concepts of connection, absence, and the fragile architecture of memory.
“Heartbreak and memory function as connective threads, structuring the emotional and conceptual fabric of the show,” Troy said. “Ceramics crack but hold; sculptures lean, reaching toward forms that are no longer there. Paint layers mimic time which are built up, scraped away and exposed again. Adorning the Hollow asks not just what is lost, but what remains in its wake and how the act of making becomes a way of remembering.”
