38th Annual Clarke University Golf Classic Supports Student Athletes

By Clarke News  |  June 18, 2026

Teeing off on two courses on Monday, June 1, the Clarke University Golf Classic raised over $58,000 to support Clarke student-athletes and athletic facilities. This event was hosted as a partnership between the Mackin Institutional Advancement Office and the Athletics Office.

Thirty-seven teams sponsored by many area businesses and long-time supporters of Clarke participated in this year’s outing. Foursomes were able to choose from two of the area’s premiere golf courses, The General at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa in Galena, Ill. and the Dubuque Golf & Country Club.

Top finishers for the event at Eagle Ridge were the WaySense team, consisting of Chad Schockemoehl ’97, Ricci Giambruno ’25, Jacob Schockemoehl, and Luke Schockemoehl. At the Dubuque Golf and Country Club, the team from All Season’s Heating and Cooling with Dan Fens, Steve Davis, Nate Droessler, and Greg Frommelt took home the honors.

Participants were also able to meet some of the student-athletes their donations will ultimately serve. Several members of the Clarke University Golf team were on site to offer tips and a few extra drives. Coaches and student-athletes from many of the university’s varsity teams were also in attendance.

Following golf, participants enjoyed dinner and a silent auction in the Wahlert Atrium, along with remarks from Clarke University President Yvonne C. Zimmerman and Golf Classic Chair Lane Madsen.

Being the Chair for the Clarke University Golf Classic was a huge honor for me. Athletics played a meaningful role in my Clarke experience — I competed in baseball, which helped me to develop my leadership and teamwork skills along with the lasting relationships that shaped my future. Event like this speak to Clarke’s strong donor community.” Madsen said. “The event was a blast and we were able to enjoy great weather and conversations with other participants I am grateful to every individual and business who took part in the Clarke University Golf Classic.”

Golf Classic Scholarship Continues

While this year’s beneficiary was the Athletics Program, the Clarke University Golf Classic has supported many initiatives over nearly four decades. This includes the Clarke University Golf Classic Scholarship, which reached full endowment in 2023 and can be awarded in perpetuity. This year’s winners are three exceptional local students who will receive a recurring scholarship for the next four years:

  • Rylee Atkinson, Edgewood Colesburg High School, Edgewood, Iowa
  • Devin Bradt, River Ridge CUSD #210, Hanover, Illinois
  • Victoria Brassard, Central Dewitt High School, Dewitt, Iowa
  • Kylie Hancock, Hempstead High School, Dubuque, Iowa
  • Lillian Hoppman, Southwestern High School, Hazel Green, Wisconsin
