Social Work Ethics in the Real World
Welcome!
Social workers depend on the NASW Code of Ethics to understand our professional responsibilities and ethical imperatives. But what happens when other, “real world” forces result in conflict or uncertainty? This workshop will explore the numerous and varied sources of influence on professional decision-making and provide tools for untangling dilemmas that challenge even the most seasoned practitioners and their client systems.
Training Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Identify multiple sources of influence on professional decision-making including the NASW Code of Ethics, laws, agency policies, personal and cultural values, and practice theories and experiences.
- Articulate the importance of decision-making models to ensure ethical decisions in practice dilemmas.
- Apply a user-friendly ethical decision-making framework to real world challenges in social work practice.
