Town & Gown Chamber Music Recital February 20

By Clarke News  |  February 13, 2019

Clarke University will host the 10th annual Town & Gown Chamber Music Recital on Wednesday, February 20 in Jansen Music Hall on the campus of Clarke University. The free event begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

Chamber music is scored for a small number of performers and is usually performed without a conductor. Recital performances from the past ten years have ranged from middle school piano students playing six-handed repertoire at one piano to college faculty playing eight-handed repertoire at two pianos. This year’s event will feature vocal solos, duets, trios, and an eight-handed piano ensemble, as well as an original composition for mixed instruments.

“It has been a pleasure for me to create ensembles which combine high school performers from Dubuque with our Clarke music students. We also invite faculty members from Emmaus Bible College, Loras College, and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to join with our faculty performers. In many cases, this is an opportunity to present little-known repertoire that deserves to be heard,” said Dr. Sharon Jensen, Clarke University Assistant Professor of Music.

The Town & Gown recital will feature faculty and student musicians from Clarke University, Loras College, University of Dubuque, Emmaus Bible College, and UW Platteville, in addition to musicians from area high schools. Clarke University music faculty Ann Duchow, Kylie Gougler, Amanda Huntleigh, and Sharon Jensen will be joined by colleagues Michael Bagby of Loras College, Elisa Cooper of Emmaus Bible College, and Rebekah Demaree of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Clarke University and Loras College students will participate in the recital. Wahlert Catholic High School student Jonathan Hill and Maquoketa High School student Danielle Dadisman are playing piano in the program.
