Dubuque Community School District and Holy Family Catholic Schools officials announced the decision to call off classes at all schools today, Feb. 23. Dubuque Senior High School, in close proximity to Clarke University, received “an alleged threat of a possible shooting” on Thursday that district officials and police had been unable to determine the credibility of.
Dubuque police determined this morning that the threat that prompted the closure of schools was not credible. The Dubuque Police Department confirmed that Clarke University is in no imminent danger.
Clarke University has been in communication throughout the morning with the Dubuque Police Department. Clarke University will continue to work with the Dubuque Police Department and city officials to improve our protocols in emergency situations involving the Dubuque-area schools.
These threats, real or not, are of great concern and will not be overlooked. The safety of the Clarke University campus community is of utmost importance.
