Clarke Teams to Take Part in Voices Art Slam

Please plan to cheer on two Clarke art department teams at the Voices Art Slam on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Voices Warehouse, 10th and Jackson streets in the Millwork District.Doors open to the public at 6:30 p.m.; 90-minute competition begins at 8 p.m.Art Slam is a timed art-making competition modeled after cooking shows such as Iron Chef and Chopped. Clarke took first place last year.Clarke will be represented by a student team and a professional team this year.Clarke Student Team: Hannah Goldsmith, Madison Rhymes and Emily Schlueter. They will compete against teams from Loras, UW-Platteville and St. Ambrose.Clarke Professional Team: Louise Kames, Eric Wold and Derek Gunderson.Art teams have 90 minutes to create a 3- by 4-foot work to interpret the theme of “Rustbelt Decadence.”Audience members circulate around artists while a deejay plays music. It is an active, fun environment.Judges will judge work on based on interpretation and handling of the theme, and the artistic quality of the artwork.Top place school and top place professional will receive $1,000.You can help Clarke with the People’s Choice Award, which will be decided by the crowd. Each team will have a bucket – audience will place votes with their own cash.
