Clarke Salutes Veterans With Nov. 9 Concert

By Clarke News  |  November 2, 2016

The Clarke University Music Department joins with a grateful nation as we celebrate our veterans with a Veterans Day Concert on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Jansen Music Hall on the Clarke University campus.

Clarke University has made this annual event a priority and invites the public to join us for this free concert. This year’s concert will include a special musical remembrance of Pearl Harbor, a tragic event that plunged our nation into war 75 years ago.

The Clarke Wind Ensemble, under the direction of David Resnick, will perform “At Dawn They Slept (December 7, 1941)” by Jay Bocook along with other new and traditional pieces. Clarke Choral Ensembles, under the direction of Jeremy Mims, will perform two special numbers: Melos will sing “Heroes Listen” arranged by Chris Rishel, and Cantabile will sing “Homeland” by Z. Randall Stroope. The audience is invited to sing along to “America, the Beautiful” and the closing number is “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and will be performed by all student musicians.

Veterans from the American Legion Post 6 will present the colors and veteran Don Dugan will perform Taps. All veterans and their families will be honored during the concert.
