Clarke Cancels In-Person Alumni Homecoming Events for 2020

By Clarke News  |  July 7, 2020

The health and safety of the university community are of utmost importance to Clarke. Therefore, in an abundance of caution, and taking many variables into consideration, Clarke has made the decision, with the support of the Clarke Alumni Association Board, to cancel in-person alumni Homecoming events scheduled for October 2-4, 2020.

The heart of Homecoming weekend is to draw people together and celebrate their collective connections to Clarke, and unfortunately, under the present circumstances, we do not feel it is possible to gather together in a meaningful and memorable way.

As of today, the in-person alumni Homecoming events that are canceled are:

  • Friday dinner for the Golden 50th Anniversary Class and all Golden Plus Classes
  • Friday American Lady River Cruise on the Mississippi River
  • Saturday Alumni Recognition Brunch
  • Saturday Tailgate Party sponsored by the Alumni Office

The Clarke Alumni Relations Office is currently developing a modified schedule of virtual events in an effort to make Homecoming 2020 as special as possible. They ask you to check the website regularly at www.clarke.edu/homecoming and look for updates on our social media sites. Please also know that Clarke looks forward to welcoming all of the 2020 reunion classes back to campus in 2021.

Commencement and athletic events will continue as scheduled for the weekend. Commencement is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, October 3, in the Kehl Center. This is possible because attendance and safety standards can be appropriately managed for that size and type of event (i.e. required masks, attendance will be limited, enforced social distancing, etc.). Please see the update here. As of July 1, 2020, Clarke University football plans to play against Baker University at 2 p.m. on Dalzell Field. More details about this will be determined at a later date.
