Burrows named chair of MCC Council of Presidents

Sister Joanne Burrows, president of Clarke University, was recently named Chair of the Midwest Collegiate Conference’s Council of Presidents and MCC Representative to the NAIA’s COP.

The COP is the executive body of the conference with all budgetary, membership and policy decisions resting with that group. The group is also the final authority on all disciplinary matters.

“I am pleased and honored to be named chair of the MCC Council of Presidents, as well as represent the MCC on the NAIA Council of Presidents,” Burrows said. “Athletics is an important aspect of the higher education landscape, and I look forward to a leadership role in the MCC and NAIA, organizations that share the values of Clarke University.”

Burrows, SC, Ph.D. became the 15th president of Clarke on July 1, 2006. In addition to her work on campus, Burrows is a highly respected leader in the Dubuque area and in the higher education community. She is on the Board of Directors of the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, of which she is past chair. She serves on the Board of Directors of Opening Doors, a nonprofit organization providing transitional house for women and children.

Burrows is very involved as a professional in the field of higher education. She is a trustee for the College of Mount St. Joseph, as well as a trustee for the Higher Learning Commission, a regional accrediting agency for the North Central 19-state region. She is also a board member for the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the Iowa College Foundation, the President’s Committee of the Midwest Collegiate Conference chair, and Iowa Campus Compact, of which she is also chair.
