Arts at Clarke Presents: Kithara Duo

Clarke University is pleased to announce the Kithara Duo of Fernand Vera and Olga Amelkina-Vera is scheduled to perform on Thursday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Jansen Music Hall on the campus of Clarke University. The Kithara Duo concert is part of Clarke University’s Arts at Clarke series.

The husband and wife guitar duo was formed in 2002. They have performed in Europe and South America, as well as nationally for such organizations as Guitar Sarasota, Guitar Fort Worth, Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society, Foundation of Modern Music, Col Canto, Voices Intimae,“Classical Minds” Guitar Festival at the University of Houston Moores School of Music, Fort Worth Guitar Guild Music Festival, Mesquite Guitar Festival and live on “The Front Row,” a program on Houston’s classical radio station KUHF.The Kithara Duo are also the creators and directors of the annual Guitar Orchestra Workshop in the North Texas area. They strive to expand the goitered repertoire through their many arrangements and original compositions.

The Kithara Duo are both performers and educators, having spent over 15 years educating aspiring musicians. Olga Amelkina-Vera is faculty atNorth Lake College in Irving, Texas and Collin College in Plano, Texas. Fernand Vera is faculty at Collin College in Plano, Texas.

The Kithara Duo has been described as “flawless guitarists possessing musical taste and refinement in the highest degree. Their performances show a beautiful command of the entire range of sounds, dynamics and effects of which the guitar is capable, together with a deep understanding of the repertoire…one of the best guitar duos in terms of perfect ensemble, naturalness of expression and sheer musicality.”

Just as the university’s nationally recognized fine arts departments continually present the highest-quality performances and exhibits, Arts at Clarke features some of the world’s greatest performers from across the country.
