Edward J. & Cathy Gallagher Arts @ Clarke Series presents: Step Afrika!

Step Afrika! is the first professional dance company in the world dedicated to the tradition of stepping. Step Afrika! has grown to become one of the top 10 African American Dance Companies in the U.S. and the largest African American led arts organization in Washington, D.C. Step Afrika! gets people moving – towards college, towards a greater appreciation for the arts, and towards a better understanding of each other.

**FREE WORKSHOP!

This free workshop is provided by the talented dancers of the Step Afrika! company. The workshop is interactive, lasts approximately 45 minutes, and includes movement, the history of stepping, and a background on the origins of traditional African dance. No prior stepping experience needed – all are welcome! Email Callie Clark to RSVP. 5-6 p.m., Jansen Music Hall.

Edward J. & Cathy Gallagher Arts @ Clarke Series presents: Over the Rhine

Over the Rhine is an American, Ohio-based folk music band, the core of which is the husband-and-wife team of Linford Detweiler on piano, guitar, and bass and Karin Bergquist on vocals and guitar. In their lyrics and in their music, Over the Rhine has managed to carve their own trail of jazzy, bluesy, folk songs, while simultaneously celebrating the untamed fringes.

Clarke and Loras’ Opera Workshops are joining forces! This evening will showcase students performing in multiple genres, portraying multiple characters and exploring what it means to be a 21st Century vocalist. Selections range from operatic favorites (Mozart, Strauss) to today’s contemporary music theatre composers. We hope you will join us for this event, the first of many collaborative productions!
