Ballad Hunter

The Clarke College Drama Department will present “Ballad Hunter” by Jennifer Laird, from Thursday, April 19, through Sunday, April 22, at 8 p.m. in Terence Donaghoe Hall on the Clarke campus. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for students.

Set in the mountains of Appalachia, Ballad Hunter is the story of three women attempting to deal with their secrets, their sorrow and with each other. Heidi Weiss of the Chicago Sun-Times called it “a deeply lyrical, emotionally varied and continually surprising new work.” Mary Shen Barnage of the Chicago Reader said Laird “forges a myth of atonement and resurrection that holds us spell bound ... each step of the journey as riveting as its final revelation is satisfying.”

Cast members for the production include: Erin Kane, of Dubuque, Iowa; Brigid Kelley, of Davenport, Iowa; Mike Link, of Sherrill, Iowa; Allison Padley of Marion, Iowa; and Nick Westemeyer, of Moline, Ill.

Clarke Professor of Drama/Speech Carol Blitgen, BVM, Ph.D., is directing the show and Abby Schultz, of Dubuque, Iowa, will serve as the assistant to the director and stage manager of the performance.
