The Clarke College Music Department will present “An Evening of Opera Scenes” on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Jansen Music Hall on the Clarke campus. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
The performance will include the one-act opera “The Face on the Barroom Floor,” an 1887 piece by Hugh Antoine D'Arcy, as well as scenes from “Elixir of Love” by Donizetti; “The Merry Wives of Windsor” by Otto Nicolai, based on the work of William Shakespeare; and a short duet from Giacomo’s Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly.”
Performers include students Matthew Beaves, of Dubuque, Iowa; Krista Baily, of Woodman, Wis.; and Callie Mescher, of Cascade, Iowa. Clarke College graduate James Enzler, of Dubuque, will be a guest performer. The performance is directed by John Lease, Clarke associate professor of music, with accompaniment by Nancy Lease, assistant professor of music.
