Athletic Training Education Program Requirements

The following program requirements are from the Clarke University 2013-2014 Academic Catalog and apply to students currently enrolled. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

The following courses must be taken to fulfill the requirements for the athletic training program. Students must obtain a C or better in courses denoted with an asterisk (*).

  • CHEM 110 General Chemistry I*
  • CHEM 111 General Chemistry II*
  • 6 hours of psychology courses
    • PSYC 111 Introductory Psychology
    • PSYC 121 Child and Adolescent Development
    • PSYC 122 Adult Development*
  • MATH 220 Statistics
  • PHIL 225 Applied Ethics (Biomedical Ethics preferred) or PHIL 212 Ethics
  • 12 hours of required prerequisite courses:
    • BIOL 115 Fundamentals of Cell Biology and Genetics*
    • PHYS 110 Elements of Physics I*
    • PHYS 111 Elements of Physics II*
  • 13 hours of required supporting courses:
    • BIOL 211 Human Anatomy & Physiology I*
    • BIOL 212 Human Anatomy & Physiology II*
    • BIOL 425 Exercise Physiology*
    • HLTH 111 Basic First Aid/CPR or proof of American Red Cross certification

In addition, the student must complete 43 hours of the following athletic training courses with a C or better, except ATHT 130 and ATHT 133 where a B- or better is required.

  • ATHT 330 General Medical Conditions in Athletic Training
  • ATHT 414 Functional Anatomy and Biomechanics
  • ATHT 422 Pathophysiology
  • ATHT 428 Therapeutic Modalities
  • ATHT 429 Clinical Education in Athletic Training III
  • ATHT 430 Principles of Pharmacology
  • ATHT 440 Therapeutic Exercise

SENIOR PERFORMANCE

The athletic training majors’ senior performance will take place in the didactic coursework of ATHT 412 and ATHT 499 and the clinical coursework of ATHT 410 and 420.
