Clarke Acquires Athletic Practice Complex

April 4, 2013:  Clarke University recently announced the purchase of a 14,000 square foot athletic practice complex on Cedar Cross Road, near the intersection of Cascade Road.

The addition of this facility aligns with Clarke’s five-year strategic plan and is supported by the Impact Tomorrow: The Campaign for Clarke. The facility specifically addresses the objective of “generating vibrancy and spirit through athletics expansion” by adding facilities to support growth in athletics and enhancing Clarke University’s visibility and presence in the community.

“We are very excited about what this facility means for Clarke,” said Clarke President Joanne Burrows, SC, Ph.D. “It is another sign of momentum and progress in our continued growth as a university.”

With over 14,400 square feet and 2.4 acres to work with, this space will serve as an indoor practice area, offices for coaches, equipment storage and space for athletic camps.

“With a record number of athletes training throughout the academic year, our existing facility is quite congested,” said Clarke Director of Athletics, Curt Long. “The additional building space will allow baseball, softball and track teams to practice indoors and lessen the stress on the Kehl Center.”

The Clarke track and field teams will begin to utilize the facility for practice immediately. The building was previously operated as Tri-State Golf Center.

Clarke University is a Catholic, liberal arts and sciences university dedicated to preparing students who positively impact their workplace, family and community.
