With a strong liberal arts program and fine arts curriculum, Clarke University offers this distinctive inter-departmental major not available at other institutions in the area. Collaboration between the music and religious studies departments enriches students with a holistic and integrated program in music, liturgy, and theology. Working with all faculty in the two departments, faculty and student interaction is an important component of the program. This interaction allows for a flexibility for developing the particular interests of students within the major.
Students with musical abilities and an interest in serving within a faith community are excellent candidates for this major. Music ministry graduates can expect a variety of career options, including positions as music ministers at churches, schools and campus, or as choir directors. A market exists within parish communities and schools for music ministers prepared in the areas of music and religious studies. Multiple internship positions are available both on campus in Clarke's campus ministry office, or off campus in parishes and schools.
Scholarships through Dubuque Archdiocesan Grants and Clarke University Talent Awards are available to help support students interested in this major.
