The Clarke University Music Department will host “A Celebration of Chamber Music” in conjunction with the Music Teachers National Association's International Day of Collaborative Music on Sunday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. in Jansen Music Hall on the Clarke campus. A sneak preview of the event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. at Kephart’s Music Center in Dubuque. Admission to both is free and the public is invited to attend.
Focusing on works that exemplify musical collaboration, the concert will feature one piece for 40 fingers on 88 keys (four pianists at one piano) and another piece for 40 fingers on 176 keys (four pianists at two pianos), among others.
Performers from Clarke University include Elaina Burns, adjunct instructor of music; Nancy Lease, assistant professor of music; LaDonna Manternach, BVM, associate professor of music; and Laura Chandler, adjunct instructor of music. Special guests will include Roy Carroll from Loras College, Elisa Cooper and Sharon Jensen from Emmaus Bible College, Margaret Cornils Luke from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Wes Luke from the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, as well as students from local schools.
