Requirements for Full Admission to the Master of Science in Nursing Program
A student must submit the following to Graduate Studies Office, 1550 Clarke Drive, Dubuque, Iowa 52001:
- A completed graduate application form. Complete the online application form now, or print and complete the form and mail with application fee.
- A $35 application fee (waived for Clarke University graduates). Please make checks payable to Clarke University. If paying with credit card, please call (563) 588-6635 with your credit card number and expiration date.
- Official academic transcripts. These transcripts must document:
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Completion of bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
- Successful completion with a grade of C (2.0) or better of undergraduate coursework in
statistics, nursing research, and health assessment.
- Three completed recommendation forms, including one relative to clinical performance, one relative to academic ability and one other. For FNP applicants, a second clinical performance recommendation is required.
- A curriculum vitae.
- A health record form including proof of personal health insurance and an annual Tuberculin Skin Test Reporting Form.
- Photocopy of current licensure as a registered nurse.
- Photocopy of current CPR or BLS certification.
- A statement of goals for graduate education and subsequent career plans.
- Documentation of a minimum TOEFL score of 550 if English is not a first language.
- All above materials must be received by February 15, 2012 for applicants seeking early admission. Materials for regular admission must be received by March 1, 2012.
The applicant must complete an interview prior to acceptance. Ordinarily this interview is scheduled when all materials and documents have been received. Interviews for early admission will be held on February 23 and 24. Interviews for regular admission will be held on March 22, 29, and 30.
Students must submit a $300 non-refundable confirmation deposit within time-line designated in the official letter of acceptance. Failure to meet this timeline may result in losing one’s place in the cohort. Once acceptance is confirmed and deposit received, a degree plan is placed in the student’s file.
Applicants to the post-master’s certificate program must also possess a master’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program.
Applicants for the FNP certificate, seeking an MSN degree, must possess current certification as advanced registered nurse practitioner in a designated specialty. Advanced practice coursework in designated specialties may qualify for Credit for Learning Experience (CLE).
TRANSFER OF GRADUATE COURSES
Students may transfer up to 6 credits of graduate study in this field with an earned 3.00 or higher (on a 4.00 scale) in each course from another accredited graduate program. Acceptance of transfer credit must be documented prior to matriculation.
