Student Achievements and Awards

 

  • Clarke Graphic Design students compete in the ADDYs (an American Advertising Federation competition) each year. In 2013, Clarke students won 50 percent of all Student ADDY Awards (34 in all) at the local level. Student winners include:

  • Clarke started a student chapter of AAF on campus in 2011. This gives students the opportunity to connect to professionals regionally and nationally. 

  • 2012 BFA graduate Christina Bolgren’s work was chosen (along with Art Faculty member Jessie Rebik) for TAPPED 3: An Exhibit of Works by Professors and their Students at Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati. 

  • Eric Wold directed the Publication Design course students in a cooperative project with the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium’s River Turtles: Secrets of the Shell Exhibition. Students competed against one another to design the exhibition logo. Jamie Demmer, designed the winning logo. In addition to the initial design campaign, Eric Wold along with students Stephanie Buse and Hilary Post designed the installation display including all signage, wall graphics and printed materials. 

  • Eight students, faculty and recent alums will exhibit work in the Dubuque Museum of Art Biennial. Sophomores Emily Schlueter and Molly Haut were featured in the ArtHaus Gallery 3rd annual Emerging Artists’ Exhibition in Decorah, IA. 

  • Jessica Bixby and Hilary Post pursued intensive graphic design research though study abroad in Leiden, Netherlands. 

  • In 2011-13 art students honed professional skills though internships at Dubuque Chamber of Commerce, Diamond Jo Casino, Kendall Hunt Publishing, McCullough Creative, Boyd Gaming, Copy Works, The Petal Project, Dubuque Community Foundation, Matter Creativity Center, Dubuque Museum of Art and Clarke University’s Marketing Office. Two of these internships led to full time positions.
