Clarke College Announces Overall Enrollment Growth

posted on September 28, 2009

Clarke College is pleased to announce a growth in enrollment for the 2009-2010 academic year, with the College’s overall enrollment increasing approximately four percent to 1,202.

The College’s traditional undergraduate program, combined with the area’s largest array of adult and graduate programs, welcomed 415 new students to campus in August. The overall makeup of the campus includes students from 28 states and 11 foreign countries.

“In these challenging economic times, it is gratifying to see more students and families choosing to invest in a quality, private higher education,” said Clarke President Joanne M. Burrows. “More importantly, our new students bring with them the academic profile to flourish in Clarke’s challenging and empowering environment.”

The first-year undergraduate students beginning this fall averaged a score of 23.2 on the ACT exam, exceeding the national average of 21.1. The average high school grade-point-average of this group was 3.33. Seventeen percent of students in this new class scored a 28 or higher on the test, putting their score among the top 10 percent of high school students nationwide.

“We believe our newest class of students is a great fit for Clarke,” said Burrows. “Outside of the classroom, they have an interest in service and campus involvement that will allow them to thrive in our vibrant co-curricular environment.  We look forward to mentoring them toward personal and career success.”
