The Clarke University Drama Department will present A.R. Gurney’s “Children” from Thursday, April 10, through Sunday, April 13, in Terence Donaghoe Hall on the Clarke campus. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 10-12 and at 2 p.m. on April 13. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for students.
“Children” explores how to preserve strong familial relationships in the face of a family member's selfish quest. In the production, a well-to-do family is forced to painful, yet often very funny, examinations of their sterile lives. The Village Voice said Gurney “writes sensitively about how people behave within those strange institutions called families.”
Student cast members for the production include: Valerie Heitzman, of Dubuque, Iowa; Brigid Kelley, of Davenport, Iowa; Abby Schultz, of Dubuque, Iowa; Colin Muenster, of Davenport, Iowa; and Erin Kane, of Dubuque, Iowa.
Professor of Drama/Speech Carol Blitgen, BVM, Ph.D. is directing the show and Allison Padley, of Marion, Iowa, will serve as the assistant to the director.
