The Clarke Organization of Student Physical Therapists (COSPT) will host a 5K fun run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 13, to support the Wheels for the World program. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 14. The run starts in front of Clarke’s Robert and Ruth Kehl Center with registration beginning at 8 a.m. and the race starting at 9 a.m. Cost is $15, which includes an event t-shirt. To sign-up for the race in advance, call the Clarke College Physical Therapy Department at (563)588-6382 or visit www.clarke.edu/cospt/funrun.
Money raised from the event will support “Wheels for the World,” a national program to collect wheelchairs, walkers, canes or crutches for people with disabilities in developing countries. The morning of the fun run, Clarke will also accept wheelchair donations for the program.
Wheelchairs are collected in any condition and are meticulously restored in the United States by carefully trained inmates in nine separate correctional facilities. The restored wheelchairs are then shipped overseas to meet up with short-term missions teams, who custom fit each wheelchair specifically for each recipient and train him or her in wheelchair use and upkeep. Wheelchair recipients are also presented with a Bible.
