Clarke Drama Department Opens Season with “And Flights of Angels,” Oct. 4-7

The Clarke College Drama Department will open its 2007-2008 season with “And Flights of Angels: The Hamlet Story” from Thursday, Oct. 4, through Sunday, Oct. 7, in Terence Donaghoe Hall on the Clarke campus. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 4-6 and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 7. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for students.

William Shakespeare’s immortal words come alive in this adaptation by Terrence Ortwein of the Hamlet story, told from the viewpoint of Horatio, Hamlet’s best friend. At the request of the dying Hamlet, Horatio determines to tell his story to those who would not understand Hamlet’s life and death.

Student cast members for the production include: Valerie Heitzman, of Dubuque, Iowa; Erin Kane, of Dubuque, Iowa; Brigid Kelley, of Davenport, Iowa; Colin Muenster, of Davenport, Iowa; Allison Padley of Marion, Iowa; Abby Schultz, of Dubuque, Iowa; Elizabeth Spoerl, of Sherrill, Iowa; Megan Swenson, of Blanchardville, Wis.; and Brenden West, of Mokena, Ill.

Guest performers in the show include: Joseph Klinebriel, assistant professor of drama/speech; Sunil Malapati, assistant professor of chemistry; and 2007 Clarke graduate Mike Link, of Sherrill, Iowa.

Clarke Professor of Drama/Speech Carol Blitgen, BVM, Ph.D., is directing the show and Christina Pechous, of Dubuque, Iowa, will serve as the assistant to the director and stage manager of the performance.
