Dear Clarke Adjunct Instructors,

Whether you are a new or returning adjunct instructor, your presence and expertise is greatly appreciated by the Clarke University Community! Welcome!

It is a priority of the university that all of our faculty become comfortable using Moodle to support their courses. Courses will be created and set up for all attendees and an orientation to tools and teaching strategies will include:

Course setup and support
Introduction to the interface
Course tools
Course construction

A workshop will cover the use of the syllabus template and the process of aligning outcomes with assessment strategies. The syllabus template (departmental or general education) can be found and downloaded from the Academic Affairs webpage. Adjuncts teaching labs normally do not use a syllabus, however all faculty are expected to use Moodle for course materials.

Be Sure to Take Advantage of the Following Support Opportunities:

  • Moodle orientation and training events are open to ALL FACULTY. The sessions will be held in the Margaret Mann Classroom on the second floor of the Library. New faculty and adjuncts are expected to attend one of the following:
    • Monday, July 30 3-5 p.m.
    • Tuesday, July 31 5-7 p.m.

Tuesday, August 21 will be the official opening of the academic year for the Clarke community as we gather in the atrium and Jansen Music Hall. President Joanne Burrows, SC, Ph.D. will open the academic year with her annual update followed with a presentation by Christy Price, Professor of Psychology at Dalton State. A schedule is enclosed and you are most welcome to attend the morning, lunch and afternoon faculty sessions, however please let your department chair know if you plan to attend the day and a lunch ticket will be provided. Also that evening is the Clarke Family Picnic at Eagle Point Park – we hope you and your family are able to attend. Click here for a free park pass. 

All new adjunct instructors are required to complete necessary paperwork with HR/Business office n o later than August 27. Please call (563)588-6315 to schedule an appointment. Also if you have had a change of address or phone number, please inform human resources office.

If you have questions about the technology orientation opportunities, please contact your department chair. These workshops are planned to allow faculty adequate time for syllabus/Moodle creation prior to August 27. I look forward to working with you this academic year!
