Where to Find a Book or Journal

Use information from the catalog record to find a book or periodical.

Status
The status column will tell you whether a book is checked out. Periodicals cannot be checked out.

Collection
"Circulating collection" means that you can check the book out. Some collections such as Reference, Oversize or IRC designate special locations for materials within the library. Ask at the circulation desk for help in finding these locations.

Call Number
Each item in the library (except for periodicals which are shelved alphabetically), has a call number. Some call numbers begin with abbreviations such as "Ref" "Oversize" or "IRC". Write down the complete call number. It acts as the "address" of an item in the library. Ask at the circulation desk for help in finding the book.

Periodicals (journals)
Current periodicals are shelved alphabetically near the windows on the first floor. Microfilm is located near the photocopier on the first floor. Some bound periodicals are also on the first floor. Ask at the circulation desk to have periodicals brought to you from low access storage.
