How
to Search
You
can type general keywords or words from titles, authors' names,
series or subject headings (these will be explained later in this
tutorial), in the search box and the computer will look for a match for those
terms in the library catalog.
Choosing
a search option
Use
a Basic
search when you:
- want
to do a broad search on a topic using single words such as
"diversity" or "terrorism"
- want
to do a broad search on a short
phrase such as "Latin America" or "Mississippi
River"
- want
to browse alphabetical lists of
authors, titles, subjects, series, or call numbers
Use
a Power
search when you:
- want
to do a more focused search on a topic by combining multiple
keywords or elements (words from an author's name, or from a
title)
- want
to refine your search by choosing one or more of the operator
words "or", "and" or "not"
- want
the most flexible combination of searching options
Use an Advanced
search when you:
- want to only use the operator
"and" to combine elements from the author, general
keyword, series or title indexes
