Types of Databases

Two types of databases that you will be using are: library catalog and article indexes.

Library catalogs

the Clarke Catalog

organize all of the materials a library purchases. These include records for books, magazines, journals, newspapers, videos, DVDs, sound recordings, etc.

The Clarke Catalog does not include articles.

   
Article databases/indexes

InfoTrac

are used to identify articles on a topic.

Some article databases such as Academic Search Premier or ArticleFirst are general or multidisciplinary.

ABI Inform Many indexes specialize in a particular subject area, such as biology, education, or business.
