Clarke University's 169th Commencement was held on Saturday, May
12, at 2 p.m. in the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center on the Clarke campus.
Sister Mary Ann Zollmann, BVM, Ph.D., president of the Sisters of Charity
of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM), addressed the graduates. She also
received a Doctor of Humane Letters degree in recognition of her
dedication to advocating for women in the Catholic church and raising

It has been
several years since Clarke completed an alumni survey and we want to
thank you for your responses. We hope to use this survey to better
serve our alumni and look forward to sharing some of the new ideas and
recommendations you generated through the survey in the coming year.
New Fight Song
students, faculty and staff were challenged to create the next Clarke
fight song. At half-time of a home volleyball game Clarke debuted the

Memorial Golf Outing
Join Clarke alumni
and friends for a Memorial Golf Outing in memory of Jack Maurer '02 on
July 21. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. at Lacoma Golf Club in East
Dubuque, Ill. The cost of $80 includes golf, prizes and a steak dinner.
Proceeds will benefit the Jack Maurer Memorial Scholarship at Clarke

Food Network Star Alton Brown to Present in Lecture Series
Food Network star
Alton Brown will be part of Clarke's homecoming festivities on Sunday,
Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. in the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center. Brown is host of
"Good Eats" and "Iron Chef America," as well as the
author of numerous cookbooks. Brown's appearance is part of this year's
15th Annual Mackin-Mailander Lecture Series. Tickets are $15 and will
go on sale Friday, Aug. 24.

homecoming weekend September 28-30. This year we are
celebrating reunions ending in 2 and 7. It's a great time to get back
to campus and see the construction projects as they progress. In
addition, a full slate of activities will be taking place including:
special evening of Clarke music and theater in tribute to Carol
Blitgen '58, BVM who recently retired from Clarke and was named a

Annual Clarke Varsity Athletics Hall of Fame induction honoring
Presidential Scholarship Concert featuring performances by
students, faculty and alumni. The first President's Awards for
Arts Excellence will be presented to Clarke graduates, faculty
members or friends of the university in recognition of their
exemplary contributions to the arts. All proceeds from the event
will be used to fund scholarships for the next generation of
Clarke music students.
